The Turku City Centre Association’s goal is to create a charismatic city centre. A charismatic city centre is safe, functional, vivid, beautiful and has a comfortable atmosphere. There are shops, department stores, services and people. Events too, to bring more experiences and vividness to the city centre!
We are influencing the attraction of the city centre of Turku by following means:
We coordinate and carry out a large event, the City Carnival. The Carnival consists of different happenings during one week in the spring. Before Christmas we also carry out a similar project, that consists of a whole of events called the Christmas Path. We also cooperate with many large and smaller events too: to help single operators in creating their personal events in the city centre. We can present different areas in the city centre where one can organize a performance, a campaign or an event. We cooperate with larger events in the city centre to make them as visible as possible. As members of the Turku City Centre Association, companies in the city centre have a chance to cooperate with their favorite events.
With diverse communication we want to make different operators, contents and experiences more visible in the city centre. We want to support local trade and local food producers. We like the positive atmosphere in Turku: all citizens of Turku help each other.
The association cooperates closely with the City of Turku. We suggest different themes for the city’s common development forums. Themes that we have suggested are e.g. the development of the payment possibilities of car parking in the city centre, different areas for children in the city centre as well as more signs to the city centre.
In 2016 we started an initiative to plan new Christmas lights to the city centre. We have also suggested parking spaces for boats in the Aura river, and in the summer of 2016 parking was placed in the river close to the city centre. We are also happy to have gotten a playground for children in the Hansa shopping centre.
We also make statements on request for larger development projects, which have been for example a tramline to the city centre and the development of the market square.
